The latest public tenders for renewable energy and storage held in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Panama are beginning to redefine the map of developers with the greatest presence in Latin America.
The processes, which together awarded more than 14 GW , show a group of companies that manage to consolidate themselves in different markets while others break in strongly from the new calls.
Among the main players are Genneia , which is leading the AlmaSADI storage tender in Argentina; AES , with a presence among the largest awardees in Colombia and Panama; COX , which is winning contracts again in Guatemala and Panama; Enel , Celsia , Atlas Renewable Energy , Matrix Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) , which continues to expand its portfolio in Mexico through Sunstone Power.
Alongside these regional players, companies with strong growth in specific markets are also emerging, such as DQD Energy , Thermion Energy , Avanzalia , EGE Haina , Taíno Solar and 360Energy , benefiting from processes where battery storage is gaining importance alongside solar and wind energy.
In Argentina , the AlmaSADI tender to incorporate 700 MW of stand-alone storage has a preliminary scenario defined. According to a simulation carried out with CAMMESA's tool , all the winning companies come directly from the local sector, with Genneia appearing as the main potential winner, having secured 421 MW distributed across seven projects .
DQD Energy follows, with 162 MW in eight initiatives , 360Energy , with 73 MW , while Aluar and Intermepro would complete the list of awarded companies if the official resolution of July 8 confirms that result.
Mexico secured one of the largest allocations of capacity in the region. The 2025 Private Generation Projects Call awarded more than 3 GW of renewable energy and 1257.4 MW of storage to 14 companies, including Iberdrola, Sunstone Power, Idea Energía, Dhamma Energy, Revolve Renewable Power , and Gemex . Within the process, Sunstone Power , backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) , obtained the largest allocation.
In parallel, the mixed scheme promoted in conjunction with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) distributed 7,410 MW among 31 developers . The most prominent among them are Thermion Energy , with 1,862 MW ; Oak Creek , with 1,160 MW ; Terralia , with 705 MW ; Fisterra Energy , with 658.9 MW ; and Cubico México , with 500 MW .
On the Colombian side, the recent reliability charge auction awarded approximately 1.8 GW through long-term contracts for the period 2029-2030 , which included 29 solar projects for 1546.9 MW and 2 wind farms that will contribute 246 MW .
The main allocations were awarded to Enel Colombia, AES Colombia, Celsia, Atlas Renewable Energy, Matrix Renewables, Acciona Energía, X-Elio, Isagen, EPM, URRÁ, Erco Energy, Nordex Colombia, Qi Energy Colombia, Evolusun Colombia and Vanguard Renewables .
In the Dominican Republic , the EDES-LP-NGR-01-2025 tender awarded 325.69 MW , less than the 600 MW initially planned. The allocations were distributed among EGE Haina , Taíno Solar , Galileo Energía , and Mella Solar Power 1 .
Furthermore, four of the five contracted projects closed with prices between USD 0.1060 and USD 0.1090 per kWh , the lowest values recorded so far for this type of contract in the country.
In Guatemala , the PEG-5 tender awarded 1,505 MW distributed across 57 projects , with an average price of USD 101.09/MWh . Of the total, 1,102 MW correspond to renewable technologies , including 713 MW of solar with batteries , one of the largest hybrid installations in Central America.
Among the main awardees are COX Energy, Ecoener, Renace, OXEC II, National Electrification Institute, Supra Energy, Regional Energética and Generadora del Norte , along with other developers that make up a highly diversified portfolio.
In Panama , the LPI ETESA 01-25 and LPI ETESA 01-26 tenders consolidated the market's leading utilities. In the first, PANAM was awarded the largest volume, while COX submitted the most competitive bid at USD 20.05/MWh .
The second bidding round awarded 22.6 million MWh , with average prices below the reference values. AES Panamá led the allocations with 8.03 million MWh , followed by Avanzalia, Alternergy, Bontex , and Energía y Servicios de Panamá (ESPEAA) .
What processes are coming next in the region?
The awards do not mark the end of the investment cycle. Mexico continues to offer new calls for bids for renewable energy generation and storage, while also moving forward with interconnection studies and the permitting process.
In Colombia , the clean energy procurement auction will reach its award stage on July 23 and 24 , incorporating specific products for solar projects and battery storage.
The Dominican Republic will return to the market to contract an additional 300 MW of renewable generation and will launch another call for tenders aimed exclusively at incorporating 200 MW of BESS systems into existing solar plants.
For its part, Guatemala is already preparing the PEG-6 tenders, to incorporate around 300 MW of firm energy , and PET-4 , which will redefine the expansion of the transmission network after the massive incorporation of new renewable projects.
With new calls for proposals underway and others about to be launched, the competition to attract investments in renewable energy and storage will continue to intensify in the coming months , expanding the group of companies seeking to consolidate their presence in the main electricity markets of Latin America.
