The facilities, located in Kärppiö, Teuva and Lapinlahti, will have a combined energy storage capacity of 600 MWh and are scheduled to become operational next year.
These supplies are part of the 1 GWh framework agreement signed by Sungrow and Delta Capacity at this year's Intersolar trade fair, which has now been fully implemented. The projects expand the companies' strategic cooperation in the Nordic region and will provide Finland's electricity system with additional rapid response capacity as renewable electricity generation continues to grow.
In the Kärppiö project, Strioga is acting as a co-investor, while Centrica Energy is contributing its expertise in energy trading. NEPower is handling the electrification and substation for the project, and Despro is acting as the local design and engineering partner.
The AKKU One battery energy storage project, located in Lapinlahti, Finland, was acquired from Helios Nordic Energy as a build-ready project, and construction is already underway. Rejlers is providing technical support during construction, while NYAB is handling the electrical work and other infrastructure required for the battery storage installation. Ampner is conducting grid connection studies and regulatory compliance verification. GreenPowerMonitor, part of the DNV Group, will supply the project's energy management, monitoring, and data acquisition systems.

Flexibility to support the growing generation of removable energy
The growth of wind and solar energy is increasing the need for solutions capable of balancing electricity generation and consumption in real time. Once operational, the battery storage systems in Kärppiö and Lapinlahti will support Finland's electricity grid by providing services such as frequency regulation and system balancing.
"The Kärppiö and AKKU One projects demonstrate how strong local and international partners can deliver large-scale battery storage projects quickly and to a high standard. Sungrow's reliable technology supports our ambition to create the flexible capacity the Finnish electricity system needs as renewable energy generation grows. Together, these 600 MWh projects represent an important step in our long-term cooperation and strengthen our position in the Nordic energy market," said Patrik Hes , CEO of Delta Capacity.
“Our strategic alliance with Delta Capacity combines Sungrow’s proven energy storage technology with a partner that has the ambition and experience to deliver large-scale solutions. The two projects in Finland represent another important step in our shared commitment to the Nordic energy market, where flexible and reliable storage will be essential to integrate the growing volumes of renewable energy and strengthen grid resilience.” — Moritz Rolf , Vice President of Sungrow Europe for DACH, the Nordic countries, Benelux, and Turkey.
Finland's electricity system is among the cleanest in Europe. This rapid growth in wind and solar generation is increasing the need for flexible, scalable assets that can balance supply and demand in real time. Battery storage projects like Kärppiö and Lapinlahti are crucial to this transition, and Delta Capacity's project pipeline in the Nordic countries—including the recently completed Ånge project in Sweden—reflects the scale of investment currently flowing into the region's grid infrastructure.
