The Dominican Republic finally awarded 325.69 MW of renewable capacity with storage in its public tender EDES-LP-NGR-01-2025 , confirming a substantial reduction from the 600 MW initially planned, as Energía Estratégica anticipated days ago , due to network restrictions.
The data also show a significant dispersion in prices , with awarded bids ranging from 0.106 USD/kWh to maximum admissible values of 0.131 USD/kWh , in addition to other blocks at 0.093 USD/kWh and 0.085 USD/kWh , reflecting a process conditioned by multiple variables.
The awarded block consists of five projects , with a predominance of photovoltaic solar technology —in some cases combined with storage— and a specific participation of wind energy.
Among the winning projects Parque Taíno I stands out, developed by Parque Taíno I, SRL , with 84.70 MW awarded and a price of 0.106000 USD/kWh , positioning itself as the most competitive offer in the process.
Next is Parque Solar Botoncillo, from Galileo Energía, SRL , with 44.20 MW at a price of 0.106450 USD/kWh , remaining within the lowest range of offers.
Likewise, Mella Solar Power 1 (MSP1), SRL awards 99.00 MW at 0.106998 USD/kWh , consolidating the main block of solar projects with battery storage.
For its part, Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina) obtained two awards , including the Esperanza II Solar Park with 48.29 MW at 0.108952 USD/kWh and the Esperanza Wind Park with 49.50 MW at a price of 0.118951 USD/kWh , the latter being the project with the highest price within the awarded block.
This set confirms the predominance of solar power in the awarded matrix , although with a slight technological diversification from the inclusion of the wind power project.

From the preliminary scenario to the cut: how does it impact the market?
The contrast with the preliminary results is stark. In April, the market was analyzing a scenario where up to 605.1 MW would be awarded across eight projects , with average prices close to USD 0.108/kWh and a highly competitive curve.
That scheme included more than 1500 MW offered , showing a strong oversupply and high investor interest, with multiple developers competing in a tight price range.
However, the final award reduces the volume to 325.69 MW , leaving out approximately 280 MW compared to the 605 MW scenario , reflecting a more selective process.
In addition to the reduction in capacity, there is a greater dispersion in the awarded prices , which indicates that the selection criteria were not based exclusively on the economic variable.
In this sense, the restrictions of the electrical grid emerge as the determining factor behind the result , conditioning the system's capacity to absorb new storage projects.
This point is particularly relevant given that it contrasts with recent signals from the Government , which during FES Caribe had anticipated new tenders for more than 800 MWh and a projection of 2000 MW of storage in the medium term .
Consequently, the current cut could be interpreted as a temporary technical adjustment , while the country moves forward with adapting its infrastructure for future larger-scale rounds.
