The PEG-5 tender in Guatemala enters a decisive phase as the distribution of projects among the companies, totaling more than 1350 MW of renewable power (whether as a primary or secondary fuel), becomes known.
The process culminated its key stage after a 14-hour uninterrupted reverse auction , with 57 economic offers submitted and an average mononomic price of 101.09 USD/MWh , resulting from the balance between the offered values of power and energy.
According to the preliminary assessment by EEGSA and ENERGUATE , along with sources from the sector, 48 awarded projects are emerging , of which 45 correspond to proposals with renewable participation, 37 exclusively ERNC and eight hybrid schemes.
In this context, the average price of pure renewable offers is 16.15 USD/kW for power and 60.80 USD/MWh for energy , setting key references for future bidding processes in the region.

Tuncaj, S.
A. leads with seven assigned projects, consolidating itself as the actor with the greatest presence in number of initiatives.
In second place is Consorcio Magdaler SA with four projects , while Anacapri, S.
A.; Jaguar Group Consortium; Business Energy Management; and OXEC II, S.
A. They each have three projects.
Below, a relevant group achieves two awards: Agen, SA; Purchase of Raw Materials; San Diego Consortium; ECOENER Sol del Sur; GENEPAL, S.
A.; and Ingenio La Unión.
Meanwhile, the rest of the companies such as COX Energy, ECOENER Sol de Oriente, ECOSOL, S.
A., Clean Energy of Guatemala, FOTON, S.
A., Generadora del Norte, Hidroeléctrica El Cóbano, Hidroeléctrica Río La Pasión, HidroXacbal, S.
A., National Institute of Electrification, Energy Mechanisms, Regional Energy, RENACE, S.
A., Samdro Group Corp, Santo Espíritu, S.
A., Central Sun, S.
A., SUPRA ENERGY, S.
A. and Xolhuitz Providencia are each participating with a project.
This distribution confirms a mixed scheme between concentration and diversification , where some players expand their presence while others enter with occasional participations, broadening the base of the electrical system.
In terms of capacity, the leadership changes. Consorcio Magdaler SA reaches 465.77 MW awarded , the result of four projects (32 MW, 56 MW, 57 MW and 320.77 MW).
This latest BIOMASS5 with 320.77 MW is positioned as the largest individual project within PEG-5 .
At the opposite end, Raw Materials Purchase adds up to just 1.03 MW , distributed in two projects of 0.78 MW and 0.25 MW , the latter being the one with the lowest capacity in the entire tender.
Supply periods and structureAnalyzing the awarded periods allows us to understand the contractual depth of the process , a central aspect for the stability of the system.
At this point, Tuncaj, S.
A. leads again with 1188 periods in total, the result of seven projects, five of 180 periods and two of 144, consolidating its position not only in volume but also in contract duration.
At an individual level, the 180 periods are repeated as a standard in most of the awards , including the BIOMASS5 project.
This marks a certain homogeneity in the most robust contracts within PEG-5.
Conversely, Hidroeléctrica Río La Pasión and the National Electrification Institute have the lowest number, with 12 periods each , corresponding to their only projects.
This value also represents the minimum within the entire tender , although other actors such as Agen, S.
A.; Ingenio La Unión; and Consorcio Grupo Jaguar present projects at that same level.
Overall, PEG-5 redefines the map of the Guatemalan electricity sector, combining high business participation, technological diversity, and a heterogeneous distribution of power and contracts.
The result is a broader and more competitive market, where large developments coexist with smaller-scale initiatives, shaping a new stage for the country's energy system.
FES Guatemala: the energy sector meets in the regionThe PEG-5 analysis takes place in parallel with one of the most relevant meetings of the energy sector in Central America: Future Energy Summit Guatemala , which will be held on May 14 in Guatemala City.
The event will take place at the Real InterContinental Guatemala in just over a month and is part of a regional tour that seeks to strengthen the exchange between companies, authorities and specialists in the energy sector .
In this context, the meeting will address key issues such as tenders, expansion of renewables, storage and evolution of electricity markets , in line with processes such as PEG-5 that set the course for the system in the country.
