A study developed by the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Colombia, Bogotá campus, validated that LONGi's Back-Contact photovoltaic modules registered a higher specific production and a better performance index (PR) compared to conventional TOPCon solutions.
The research is part of the strategic alliance between LONGi and the National University of Colombia for the development of a Photovoltaic Laboratory for technological evaluation, aimed at validating the performance of BC technology in real environmental operating conditions.
The following is a comparative analysis of the performance of the test photovoltaic field during the period between May 9, 2026 and July 31, 2026 (84 days):
- Variables evaluated:
- Specific production index (kWh/kWp): measures energy production based on installed power.
- Performance Index (PI): shows how efficiently a power plant converts radiation into useful electrical energy.
- Irradiance (W/m²): measures the energy per unit area of solar radiation incident within a surface.
- System definition:
The photovoltaic field consists of four test tables, each of which is made up of photovoltaic modules of different technologies.
The configuration of the four tables evaluated is shown below:
Table 1. Photovoltaic field specifications
Analysis of energy generation results
Table 2: Summary of energy indicators
The results show differences in the energy performance of the evaluated technologies. Table 4, equipped with 645W Hi-MO X10 modules, achieved the highest cumulative specific production during the evaluation period, with 319.4 kWh/kWp , as well as the highest specific efficiency, with 3.80 kWh/kWp/day . This was closely followed by Table 1, equipped with 645W Hi-MO X10 Anti-Dust modules, which recorded a specific production of 318.3 kWh/kWp and a specific efficiency of 3.79 kWh/kWp/day .
Both configurations recorded a production and specific performance between 3-6% higher than those obtained by the TOPCon technologies evaluated in tables 2 and 3, even though the latter had a higher installed peak power.
Chart 1. Specific monthly production per table (kWh/kWp)
Graph 1 shows the specific monthly production per table, confirming the trend of superior performance indicators for tables 1 and 4, which are made up of LONGi's cutting-edge technology.
The superior performance observed in modules based on HBPC 2.0 technology is due to the new improvements incorporated into LONGi's Back-Contact technology. These include optimized light absorption through a multi-layer anti-reflective coating and the implementation of a bipolar hybrid passivation technology, which significantly reduces current losses while improving cell conversion efficiency.
Additionally, the module incorporates the innovative TaiRay wafer , which comprehensively improves the power generation potential and reliability of the cell, reduces the presence of impurities and increases mechanical strength, decreasing the risks of creating hidden micro-cracks.
The tests carried out by the laboratory show that the selection of reliable technologies and the evaluation of criteria that go beyond mere energy generation can be relevant factors not only to more accurately estimate real energy production but also to support the long-term performance of assets and maximize the return on investment.
This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between academia and industry as a catalyst for the development of the Colombian energy sector. The validation and evaluation of different technologies, the generation of local data, and the demonstration of the real value of technological innovation can significantly contribute to more informed decision-making by developers, specialists, installers, and distributors.
LONGi's cutting-edge Back-Contact technology continues to lead the industry toward new standards of reliability, quality, and sustainability. Looking ahead, LONGi remains committed to generating long-term value for its customers worldwide, with a strong focus on collaborative technological innovation.
