The Uruguayan Renewable Energy Association (AUDER) will hold a new edition of the LATAM Renewables Congress on July 28 and 29 at the LATU Auditorium. Under the theme "The Age of Electricity," the event will bring together authorities, specialists, and stakeholders from the public, private, and academic sectors to discuss the main challenges of the next stage of the energy transition in Uruguay and the region.
After transforming its electricity grid to achieve one of the highest shares of renewable energy in the world, Uruguay now faces a new challenge: extending that transformation to sectors that still depend primarily on fossil fuels, such as transportation, industry, and some production processes. The electrification of these sectors, accompanied by new technologies and storage solutions, will be one of the central themes of the congress.
The opening ceremony will feature the participation of AUDER President Diego Oroño; the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Fernanda Cardona; and the Minister of the Environment, Edgardo Ortuño. Also participating will be the President of UTE, Andrea Cabrera, and the President of ANCAP, Cecilia San Román, who will share the public companies' perspectives on this new phase of national energy development.
During the two days, panels will be held on electrification, electric mobility, battery storage, solar energy, distributed generation, green hydrogen, synthetic fuels, social license, innovation, regional cooperation and new technologies applied to the sector.
The agenda will also include spaces dedicated to future energy leaders and capacity building to support this transformation.
"Uruguay has already demonstrated that it is possible to transform its electricity matrix. The challenge ahead is to take advantage of that renewable electricity to also transform the way we move, produce and consume energy," said Diego Oroño , president of AUDER.
"The electrification of new sectors represents a tremendous opportunity to improve our competitiveness, reduce our dependence on imported fuels, and move towards a more efficient and sustainable economy. To achieve this, it is essential to build long-term public policies that support this process and provide clear signals for investment and innovation," he added.
The LATAM Renewables Congress will feature the participation of leading figures from public bodies, companies, universities and national and international organizations, consolidating itself once again as one of the main spaces for exchange on energy and energy transition in Latin America.
