Gotion and Richardson Electronics announced an alliance to supply battery energy storage systems (BESS) to the US market, in a move that combines local manufacturing, commercial expansion and a bid to capture a new stage of the energy storage business.
The partnership envisions two platforms: a 760 kWh system geared towards the commercial-industrial segment and a 5 MWh system for utility-scale applications , both manufactured and assembled at Gotion's facilities in Manteno, Illinois.
The agreement will allow them to tackle projects ranging from behind-the-meter installations for industrial customers to large-scale grid-connected developments, in one of the most dynamic energy storage markets.
Beyond the corporate announcement, the alliance fits with the strategic vision that Gotion has been proposing for the development of energy storage.
During his participation in FES Caribe , Juan Maisterra , ESS Manager LATAM of Gotion , made it clear that the growth of storage will not advance in a single way, but on different simultaneous fronts: hybrid projects integrated with renewables, standalone systems connected directly to the grid and C&I solutions.
“It’s not a question of whether it will happen or not; energy storage together with photovoltaics is a reality,” he said.
One of the strongest messages that Gotion conveyed at FES Caribe was that storage should not be analyzed solely from the initial cost of the asset, but that the logic of the business requires thinking about operation, maintenance and technical support throughout the useful life of the project, especially in a market where operational continuity is critical.
"It's not just about selling you the battery, training you to install it, and that's it; it's about being committed throughout the project. As manufacturers, we also have to support that part of the market, professionalize the market, and certify EPC contractors."

The phrase takes on special relevance in a context where the choice of suppliers no longer depends solely on CAPEX, but on the ability to guarantee local support, operational availability and rapid response to failures.
Along those lines, the executive highlighted differences with certain remote care models still present in the market: “There are many players in the market where you have to wait for them to get up and running in China to solve your problem.”
The warning aims to prevent faulty installations or poorly executed developments from undermining confidence in a technology that is gaining prominence in increasingly strained electrical grids.
With that interpretation, the alliance between Gotion and Richardson appears not only as a commercial agreement in the United States, but as an industrial move to position themselves at the heart of an energy transformation that is just beginning.
FES's next stops
The Future Energy Summit tour will continue with FES Guatemala on May 14 and FES Mexico on May 19, where key players from the public and private sectors will address the challenges and opportunities linked to the expansion of the energy system, new investment schemes and the execution of strategic projects.
To access the full FES 2026 tour schedule, learn more about it and be part of the meetings, the FES digital platform is available, while all events will have a live broadcast through the official Future Energy Summit YouTube channel.
